iClone – Top 5 Best Uses of iClone in 2015

Share

TOP-5_CrazyTalk_0129

For the past 15 years, iClone has been widely used in the world for everything from television programs, 3D film-making, video game development, pre-viz production, special effects, and just about anything.

In 2015, we were happy to see iClone being used in movie trailers, and in independent short films as iClone is a great tool for animators to express their creativity with. The use in the Jimmy Kimmel Live! TV show, and Toei Animation Studios previz show exactly just how far iClone has come, and matured, into a professional animation tool.

Here are our picks for the Top 5 Best uses of iClone in 2015!

Top 1.《The Walk Home》by Steve Cutts

This short film created a great atmosphere about the dark side of a city. Through a boy’s troubled journey across a hostile urban area, he experiences violence, flight, fire, guns, bullets, and in the end… death.

When the boy eventually encounters his own death, he sees all the dead spirits that he faced. It’s like he went through the dark side of humanity, and then suddenly a transformation happened – the evil inside broke through, and the human inside awoke. We chose this film as the best use of iClone in 2015, not just because it’s really well-made, but because of its  deep meaning.

Animator and illustrator Steve Cutts did an excellent job at setting the scene, character animation, story-telling and visual effects.  He created this film in After Effects and Photoshop, with additional 3D elements created in Cinema 4D and iClone.

Top 2.《 Plato’s Reality Machine OFFICIAL TRAILER》

It’s impressive to see iClone used in an official movie trailer. Plato’s Reality Machine is an ensemble portrait of the modern relationship, as it currently exists in the wilds of New York. It’s a story of the timeless quest for a real human connection, however short-lived.

In this film, a mysterious video game adventure interweaves with reality television inspired confessionals and traditional narrative stories. The trailer wisely uses iClone for its video game scenes, showing the capabilities of iClone for great visual effects without having to go to great lengths to model, rig, and key-frame all your models and animations; allowing filmmakers to save effort, cut budgets and deliver their projects on time thanks to one of the best 3D animation software for real-time.

Top 3. 《Featured Stories: Toei Animation Studios》

Toei Animation Company is a publicly listed company in Japan, that uses iClone and the Kinect plug-in for some of their in-house previz. Toei Animation produces all kinds of animations while marketing various video productions, and running licensing businesses for its copyright IPs.

Associate Department Manager Noguchi Koichi and his team use iClone to get the same effects as traditional storyboards with sketches, but with a minimal amount of physical equipment and crew, allowing them to make sure that the shots and character animations are what they are looking for, all in real-time animation.

Top 4. 《Jimmy Kimmel & Cousin Sal prank with iClone》

The Jimmy Kimmel Live! show has largely become a staple in American TV comedy, serving up comedy bits and welcoming guests that include other comics, celebrities, athletes and musicians, as well as everyday people with unusual or compelling personal stories.

In this episode Jimmy and his cousin Sal use iClone’s real-time animation engine, to set up a fake sonogram appointment for their pregnant cousin Micki. Now Micki was in on the bit, but her mother (Jimmy and Sal’s aunt Chippy) was not. Aunt Chippy had never seen a sonogram before, so Jimmy had their graphics department come up with a 3D human model to later animate with iClone, in order to give Aunt Chippy the most incredible sonogram that anyone has ever seen.

Top 5. 《iClone Animation-Extinction》 by Andy Chou

This is a non-commercial short film that expresses the importance of facing animal extinct in the world. It was beautifully created by Andy Chou, a talented special effects video animator.

In his short film Andy uses iClone, 3DXchange, and Cinema 4D to create a wide range of character animations, effects and visualizations that perfectly dance together in a brilliantly crafted animation. In the video, no dialogue is needed as the visuals do a great job at delivering a compassionate message about our animal partners, and our earth.
