I am Tobe. A songwriter, videographer, editor, producer and creative head of the successful children music project “Frank and his Friends” from Germany.
I dedicate myself fully to the musical and visual ideas of the show. So I needed to quickly animate our cartoon version without much effort. Since I do not have the time to fiddle around and read manuals, I came across Reallusion and their CrazyTalk and iClone software Anyone, who has ever tried other programs, knows how much work and computing power would be required to create an animated show, but by comparison, Reallusion has made it relatively easy for me.
Utmost Creatives Film from Philippines is making a magical and unique film titled MY BEAST FRIEND, by combining animation with live actors through a story of friendship and acceptance between a boy and a beast named ‘HUG’.
In their film, they are using iClone and it’s Motion LIVE motion capture technology with Faceware Realtime for iClone, to animate and render their CG protagonists in order to cut down on production time and meet their movie deadline.
SIGGRAPH 2018 was held in Vancouver on August 12-16, and Reallusion is pleased to be featured by Cartoon Brew as one of the 12 Cool New Pieces of Animation Tech at SIGGRAPH.
Alongside with NVidia’s single GPU for real-time ray tracing, StarVR’s new headset, A.I. in Allegorithmic’s Substance, Sketchfab’s new way of looking at huge 3d datasets and other industry new tech — iPhone X Face Mocap was selected as one of the coolest new techs in the show.
Face tracking solutions using smartphones were part of several technologies shown at SIGGRAPH, but one that seemed particularly accessible was Reallusion’s LIVE FACE for iPhone X. When Cartoon Brew tried out LIVE FACE, a 3D character head moved and performed lip sync simply from our facial movements live in front of an iPhone.
Adolf worked on computer programming and technical 3D modelling until six years ago, when he started writing graphic novels and creating 3D animations.
iClone stands out as being the most accessible and easy-to-learn 3D animation application — but that doesn’t mean it’s not professionally powerful. On the contrary, it’s filled with clever features that make complex animation hyper easy!
Also, iClone’s latest version has boosted the quality of its renders, including PBR materials, Image Based Lighting with HDR pictures, and Global Illumination, and because of this, it has motivated us to start creating models of vehicles for iClone, that not just look good, but that thanks to the improved render features, help people with their animations.
So I included features like emissive materials or parts that can be manipulated individually. Objects like the doors, the steering wheel, the gear level, and the pedals are all interactive sub-props that can be rotated or reached by the characters of a scene. Helping to create convincing driving animations.
In addition, the 4 Wheel structure provided by Reallusion’s Physics Toolbox, allows one to actually drive the vehicles over the iClone terrains while recording their motions in real-time. It facilitates the animation of the vehicles, as the spinning of the wheel are automatically synchronized with the motion of the car, depending on its speed, while it follows the slopes and irregularities of the terrain.
This is an overview tutorial of the pipeline I followed to create these models and how they can be easily animated in iClone.

This tutorial will focus on the creation of a semi-stylized CC avatar using Character Creator and Sculptris. The tutorial is for beginners and intermediate user.
The following Tutorial will focus on the creation of a semi-stylized CC avatar in Character Creator. We will mainly work in CC, but it will be necessary to have the Essential Morphs and Skin package installed. Additionally, we will use the free modeling tool Sculptris (http://pixologic.com/sculptris/) to refine some elements of the mesh. You don’t have to be an expert in modeling with Sculptris as we will only do basic modeling with it. This Tutorial is for beginners and intermediate users and I will try to present each step as detailed as possible. I recommend to watch the accompanied video to get a better understanding of the individual steps and workflow. Even if I share all the CC slider values with you during each step, please keep in mind that the creation process is always a creative trial-and-error and testing of different sliders. Feel free to experiment and let your imagination run wild. Character Creator offers nearly unlimited possibilities to create the avatars you need. Have fun and Happy Creating!
