Design & Deploy Realtime RTX, Game-ready 3D Characters
Reallusion debuts new 3D character and animation pipeline at GDC 2019 for games, cinematics and realtime experiences. Game visuals featuring RTX graphics and next-gen shaders now enable developers to make the most stunningly visual games ever. Reallusion’s Character Creator and iClone match the visual leap with a new real-time 3D game character solution for Unity, Unreal and the world of games, AR and VR. Design and deploy AAA-quality characters on an indie budget including tools for character creation, animation, motion capture for face and body, or a massive library of motions and moves to send to game engines. Optimize game characters with polygon reduction, LOD, UV and material merging for efficient game design. Import ready-to-play characters into game engines with Reallusion’s automated support for shader assignment, player animations and facial performances.
See Reallusion’s Game Tools: Character Creator, iClone and Motion Live at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, March 20-22 booth #P1754. From character creation to animation, Reallusion will showcase and demo Character Creator (CC) with automatic digital human shader assignments and characterization for Unreal UE4 and Unity mecanim character standard. Get a first look at the new Unreal LiveLink for iClone connecting iClone’s powerful real-time character animation pipeline to Unreal’s RTX raytrace render.
3D World Magazine featured REPLICAS behind-the-scenes story in issue #244, on how Reallusion tools empowered the VFX crew, director and movie producers to collaborate and rapidly create the visual effects for – REPLICAS, the latest sci-fi thriller film starring Keanu Reeves.
“The real-time tools from Reallusion and Noitom were at the core of what we were able to accomplish”
– James Martin / Mocap artist
“To be able to comp the iClone postviz of the robot directly into the actually filmed plates, really made it possible to design the sequences and also preview the film for a test audience to get their early impressions.”
NYC Production & Post News reviewer Joe Herman gives iClone 7 a thorough review.
The review goes through iClone 7’s significant new features, including PBR rendering, Global illumination(GI), Motion Capture and real camera systems.
“Reallusion’s iClone 7 is a unique and multi-faceted application that allows you to quickly get started in character animation without having to worry too much about modeling your characters or props from scratch, thanks to its extensive libraries and advanced character morphing abilities. “
– Joe Herman / Filmmaker, Artist, Post Production Specialist
“Directors and filmmakers will find iClone 7 to be a great pre-visualization tool, especially with the new real camera system while artists and animators will appreciate the advanced new PBR rendering engine with advanced features such as Global Illumination and Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion. “

Thanks to Ars Technica’s senior reporter Jennifer Ouellette who featured Replica, the new science fiction film starring Keanu Reeves. Catch the behind-the-scenes story on how iClone was used to bring sci-fi VFX to life.
They interviewed Executive Producer James Dodson on how he got big-studio effects on a modest budget.
“Maya is expensive and can quickly eat up a production budget just in the design and pre-visualization stages. A single four-minute pre-viz sequence can cost $350,000 or more. That’s why Replicas Executive Producer James Dodson brought in a cheaper alternative for those early stages: iClone, a suite of animation software tools frequently used by game developers.”
Reallusion reveals 360 Head Creator, a new character design feature for 2D animation software Cartoon Animator 4. Cartoon Animator (formerly CrazyTalk Animator) is known for its quick results combined with pro features for the easiest approach and workflow since 2008. Cartoon Animator 4 will release in April 2019 with Smart IK, 3D Head Creator and Live performance capture (webcam facial mocap), all new tools to elevate 2D animation production.
Cartoon Animator 4 breaks through the limitations of 2D Art, and delivers a practical way for 2D animators to create characters with advanced animation along with vivid expressions. The 360 evolution streamlines the workflow for Head Creation, Expression Setup, and directly to the animation core with face key editing, puppeteering, and the timeline system.
Reallusion will exhibit at the Game Developers Conference (GDC 2019) in March!
The Reallusion team will showcase and demonstrate the all-new Character Creator Game Pipeline designsfor AAA Game Studios, and indie game developers alike. Meet us at the Moscone Center in San Francisco from March 20th ~ 22nd.
Fxguide.com, vfx industry pro Mike Seymour recently talked with James Dodson, Executive Producer of REPLICAS, about the film and use of iClone for previz, mocap and postviz. Dodson shares the cost-savings, added-value and flexibility iClone provided to the director and production crew. Know more about Keanu Reeves’ direct involvement with the production, beyond the script, and more in this story on how iClone was used by the filmmakers from fxguide.
The team used iClone in the production of Replicas in three ways: 1. James Martin and John Martin led the previz team in visualising some of the action sequences such as the car crash in iClone. 2. There was also conceptual work around the AR infographics that Keanu’s character manipulates, that needed the software for the interaction to work onscreen. 3. Finally in post-production, iClone was invaluable in animating the robot when it gains consciousness.
“…the benefit is in how inexpensive and accessible tools, such as iClone, are able to, democratize the entire process of motion capture and real time rendering – I am just addicted to previsualisation, and the level of quality and detail we can do for a few hundred dollars and still have studio quality results is incredible.”
Geoffrey James, the contributing editor for Inc.com, author and professional speaker, recently posted an article on Inc.com sharing his observations on real-time animation technology that will massively transform how movies and animated videos are made.
Reallusion’s iClone is proud to be mentioned as one of the pioneers of real-time animation technology alongside Unreal game engines. Based on Geoffrey’s research and experiences there are five areas where 3D real-time animation is disrupting established practices and establishing new markets.
Industry sectors like: Low-cost CGI and VFX Footage for Feature Film, Deep Pre-Visualization to Reduce Film Production Costs, Television Studios Located in Virtual Reality, Independently Produced Animated Features and Trade Show Kickoff videos.
For example, the latest Hollywood movie Replicas applies iClone real-time animation as a Previsualization tool to reduce production costs.
“Keanu Reeves used the iClone 3D animation software to reduce the shooting budget for his recently released film Replicas. Replicas is heavy on mixed live action and effects, which would have been prohibitively expensive if shot using traditional methods.”
